St Kevin’s College has three libraries to support the reading and research needs of its community.
The Glendalough Library is located at the College’s Junior Campus, the Waterford Library is in Richmond at the College’s Year 9 Campus, and the Senior Library – which serves students in Years 7, 8, 10, 11 and 12 – is located at the Heyington campus in Toorak.
All students from Preparatory to Year 10 participate in a regular reading program and there is a strong reading culture within the College. These reading programs have been devised by Teacher Librarians who have an excellent knowledge of children’s and young adult literature, as well as a range of strategies which will engage a boy to read.
Students from Preparatory to Year 8 visit the library each week, fortnightly at Year 9, and once a Term at Year 10. Vibrant book clubs operate at Years 7, 8 and 9 to encourage boys to read and discuss books and to meet like-minded peers.
Through the College’s Portal, the library has an extensive collection of online resources and research advice. Library staff provide support to teachers and students who need to complete research in a wide range of topics. This not only includes how to find quality information sources but also how to effectively use this information.
