Headmaster's Weekly Address

15-Jun-2017

Dear Parents

Examinations for Years 7 – 11 have concluded and I must state my delight in the conduct of the examinations and thank our Director of Studies, Mr Jones, Director and Assistant Director of Administration, Mr Guinane and Mr Foley, Senior School Studies Co-ordinator, Mrs Linehan, Waterford Studies Co-ordinator, Mr Crompton and Middle School Studies Co-ordinator, Mrs Wallace. The colleagues specifically mentioned, led a very large team who ensured that all academically had that St Kevin’s touch. Year 12 have commenced their SAC and examination period.

The organised, structured and professional conduct of examinations is an important element in the creation and maintenance of our St Kevin’s academic culture. Much work is going into reports which will be available on the portal at term’s end.

All at SKC are so pleased to congratulate our Deputy Headmaster, Mr Bill Doherty, on his appointment as Principal of Xavier College, Kew, from the start of 2018. Perhaps some in our community are unaware that Mr Doherty is in his second stint at St Kevin’s. Prior to his role as Deputy Headmaster, he was Head (Dean) of Waterford. Mr Doherty’s contribution to the Leadership Team has been across a very broad range of important issues and his interest in and care of students has always been his top priority. During his time as Deputy Head, he has taught Religious Education and History as well as coaching the 2nd XI Cricket side and the 1st XV Rugby team. I have been particularly grateful for the excellent work Bill has done in formalising the appointment, validation and training of non-teaching coaching staff and his work in the area of Outdoor Education structures and policies which also involved his walking the Year 10 Camino and travelling to Nepal. We wish him every success as he takes up this important role in Catholic education and will commence our search for our sixth lay Deputy Head before the end of term.

Kind regards,

Stephen F Russell
